What information do I need to file a personal tax extension?

You only need three things:

1. Your full legal name and Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN
2. Your mailing address
3. An estimate of your tax liability — how much you expect to owe for the year, or $0 if you expect a refund

You do not need your W-2, 1099, or any other tax documents to file an extension.
