The IRS Transmission ID is the unique tracking number the IRS assigns to your e-filed extension, and it's your proof that the extension was submitted and accepted.
Why it matters. Along with your IRS Status and Electronic Postmark, the Transmission ID is part of the acknowledgement the IRS sends back confirming your extension was received. A tax professional or the IRS may ask for it as proof that you filed on time.
Where to find your Transmission ID
- Log into your account.
- Go to Tax Filings.
- Open the status card for your extension.
- Once accepted, the card displays your IRS Status, Transmission ID, and Electronic Postmark together.
Can't find it in your account? Check the IRS acceptance email we sent you — the same details are included there.
Keep this information safe — you may need to provide it if you're asked to substantiate your filing date.
