AutoExtend is an optional service that automatically prepares and submits a future tax extension using information already on file, provided the service-fee payment is successful.
How AutoExtend works
- Advance notice: We email you 5–7 days before your scheduled automatic filing.
- Your options: Before filing, you can cancel AutoExtend, skip the filing for this year only, or add an IRS tax payment to accompany the extension.
- Service payment: When the scheduled filing is processed, we charge your saved payment method for the service fee.
- IRS submission: We transmit the extension only after the service-fee payment succeeds. If payment is unsuccessful, the extension is not transmitted.
- IRS status: The IRS then accepts or rejects the extension. Check My Tax Filings for its status.
Does AutoExtend guarantee IRS acceptance?
AutoExtend has a very high IRS acceptance rate because it reuses information from your previous filing, which typically changes little from year to year. Although acceptance cannot be guaranteed, most returning customers can expect a smooth filing process. If the IRS rejects your extension, you can correct and resubmit it at no additional service fee.
Does AutoExtend pay my taxes?
Not automatically. During the advance-notice period, you may add an IRS tax payment using your bank account information. The IRS payment is separate from our service fee and is debited directly by the IRS, not charged to your saved credit card. An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay taxes owed.
