Our filing service fee and the taxes you owe the IRS are separate payments. Paying the service fee pays for preparing and filing your extension or return; it does not pay your IRS tax balance.
Paying IRS taxes through our filing process
When you file through our website, choose one of these options for any tax amount you owe:
- Direct debit from your checking account: Authorize an Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW) in the secure filing form. Review the amount and withdrawal date before submitting. EFW is available in the regular filing form; you do not need AutoExtend.
- Mail a check to the IRS: Mail your check separately, following the current IRS instructions for your form and tax year.
- No payment through our filing process: You may choose not to submit an IRS tax payment with your filing. You still owe any tax due by the IRS payment deadline. An extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay.
Payment methods at our checkout
PayPal, credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Venmo can be used to pay our service fee for an extension or return filing when shown at checkout. They do not pay your IRS tax balance through our filing process.
If you choose not to pay the IRS through our filing process and want to pay the IRS separately, follow the current instructions on the IRS Payments page. That payment is separate from our service fee and filing checkout.
Avoid paying twice
Before making a separate IRS payment, check whether an EFW withdrawal is already scheduled or completed. Acceptance of your filing does not by itself confirm that the IRS payment was processed. If the payment status is unclear, contact Support for an account review.
Enter bank details only in the secure filing form. Never send full bank-account, routing, card, or Social Security numbers in chat or email.
