Reasons for getting a Temporary Rejected status

Modified on Thu, 30 Mar, 2023 at 3:42 AM

There are various reasons why the taxpayer gets a Temporary Rejected status when filing a federal tax extension with the IRS.

Most Common Reasons:

  1. The extension has been rejected by the IRS because the taxpayer entered his last name in the first name field and vice versa.
  2. The extension has been rejected by the IRS because either the Primary taxpayer or the spouse's Social Security and Name combination do not agree with the IRS's records.
  3. Your extension was rejected because of incorrect validation on the Electronic Funds Withdrawal meaning either your PIN or last year's AGI do not agree with IRS records.

This is NOT a rejection that has anything to do with our system, this is the message that was received directly from the IRS.
