How you’ll be notified about your IRS tax extension status.

Modified on Fri, 16 Oct at 4:19 PM

You'll be notified by email, by text if you opted in, and in your account's status card — all within seconds of the IRS responding to your extension.

Email. Sent to the address you used to open your account, usually within seconds of the IRS response. Check your spam/junk folder if you don't see it.

Text message. If you opted into SMS notifications at checkout, you'll get a text at your mobile number as soon as the IRS responds.

Your account's status card. Your dashboard's status card shows your extension's current IRS status at a glance and updates automatically once the IRS responds.

How to check your status in your account

  1. Log into your account.
  2. Go to Tax Filings.
  3. Find the status card for the extension type you filed (Personal or Business).
  4. The card shows your current IRS status; once accepted, it also shows your IRS Submission ID and Electronic Postmark.

Keep these details handy — you may need the IRS Submission ID and Electronic Postmark as proof of filing for a tax professional or the IRS.

Don't see a status update yet, or have a question? Chat with Support and we'll help you check.
