How will I be notified the status of my federal tax extension?

Modified on Wed, 15 Jan at 1:25 PM

When you complete an eFiled federal tax extension using our service, you will be notified of the IRS status of your extension acceptance in the following ways:

  • Email - You will be notified via email (sent to the email used to open the account) within seconds of the IRS responding to the status of your extension. Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as well.

  • SMS—If you opt into our SMS notification at checkout, you will receive a text message on your mobile number within seconds of the IRS responding to your extension's status.

  • Account - Log back into your account and click on "Tax Filings" at the top right of the screen. Click on the extension type you'd like to view, Business or Personal, and click, "view details" to see the IRS Status/Transmission ID and Electronic Postmark.  Keep these details handy in the event you need to provide proof of this federal extension to a tax professional or the IRS.

Please note: We send any notifications we receive from the IRS regarding your tax extension literally within seconds of our receiving them but please be aware that we are at the mercy of the IRS as far as when they send us those notifications. Their response times are generally pretty quick but during high volume periods (such as on tax deadline day), their response times can slow down.
