The system is rejecting my spouse's SSN — what's wrong?

A few common causes:

  • Formatting: Enter the SSN as digits only — no dashes or spaces (e.g., 123456789, not 123-45-6789).
  • Wrong field: Make sure you are entering your spouse's SSN in the spouse SSN field, not the primary SSN field.
  • Typo: Double-check the number against your spouse's Social Security card.
  • ITIN: If your spouse has an ITIN instead of an SSN, enter the ITIN in the same field.
