Tennessee does not impose a personal state income tax on individuals. Tennessee residents are not required to file a state income tax return and do not need to request a state extension. There is no Tennessee personal income tax return to extend.
The Hall Income Tax—which previously taxed interest and dividends—was fully eliminated effective January 1, 2021. Tennessee residents do not need to file a personal income tax extension with the state for tax years 2021 and beyond.
